The Ponoka and District Health Foundation has received a $100,000 grant from the Arnie J. Carbonneau Foundation.
The funds will go towards the purchase of equipment and patient comforts at the local hospital, said Val Schabert, foundation board member.
“We were pretty thrilled,” she said, adding that the foundation learned of the donation at the end of May.
“We sure do appreciate it.”
The foundation was founded by community volunteers in 2011.
“We remain composed of a dedicated group of volunteers that, working in cooperation with local health professionals, ensures that dollars raised in Ponoka and the surrounding area are used to enhance and sustain high-quality healthcare in the community,” states their website.
Meanwhile, Schabert said the latest piece of equipment purchased by the foundation was a mobile X-ray machine.
“We are also re-doing the family rooms in palliative care,” she said.
Arnold James Charbonneau, a Calgary-based entrepreneur, has been described as a devoted philanthropist who supported and funded many charities and key research programs, including the Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute at the University of Calgary and regional health foundations across Alberta.
